Entering the Dark Pit of Difficult Return (Ruth’s Story)
Ruth brought her grown daughter Victoria into my office a few months ago. Three years earlier, Victoria had been struck by a car at high speed in her mail- carrier vehicle and was seriously injured. Disabled and living at home, she was now in the midst of a severe pain flare-up. Her medical advisors seemed to have given up on resolving her condition. They’d resorted to managing her pain with strong narcotic medications.
I had spoken at a community workshop sponsored by the National Wellness Foundation on ADHD and Ritalin, which Ruth had attended. During this critical time for Victoria she thought of me and called for an appointment, desperately hoping I could help her daughter.
When I entered the consultation room, Victoria was nearly curled up into a fetal ball in the chair and her mother, sitting by her, had been crying. Victoria made minimal effort to communicate and kept her face down in her hands. Her mother mostly spoke for her.
Just to survive, Victoria was taking extremely high quantities of pain pills, far exceeding the recommended dosages. When I let her know that I’d do my best to help her, she said that she would just as soon die.
With Victoria’s agreement, I proceeded to slowly and carefully evaluate her postural imbalances and areas of excessive muscle contraction and tenderness, as well as conduct various tests to discern altered functioning of her nervous system. This was followed by a computerized assessment of her nervous system disturbances and precise biomechanical x-rays of her neck and lower back to measure misalignments between the vertebrae.
Join us next month for the conclusion as Victoria experiences a life-altering “miracle” and we explore how it occurred.
