Projecting Yourself Onto Your World
Do you ever find yourself thinking: "I just can't seem to live and work with these people very well but I can't do without them either"? You're not alone. This is a struggle for everyone to some degree.
However, it is possible to live "Set Free" and extend greater freedom to others?
We are each unique individuals with our own worldview and way of being. We see the world from our own personal plot of soil. Each of us have different interests, attitudes and values.
We all have our own set of motivations and purposes that make life worthwhile for us. We also have our own approach to thinking and style of doing the things we do as we walk through our days.
So who are you? What are you like?
Since you are the center of your own perception, you naturally have a tendency to believe that your way of doing things and the reasons for them are the most normal, important and correct.
Remember we originally thought that the earth was the center and the sun revolved around us. You therefore project who you are, what you want and what works for you onto the world of people around you.
For the most part, I believe we all do this subconsciously and without any malice of intent. You tend to expect (and then possibly demand) people to be like you, to see life and its priorities as you do. It often surprises you when people don't.
If we're different, then somebody must be wrong and so from my perspective it's probably you. We seek to create other people in our image.
When you do this you limit others and fail to see the beauty of their differences. You lose out on all the possible contributions that people with different values, ways of thinking and believing can bring to enhance your life and the world.
You have certain needs that must be met each day in accordance with your personal behavior style or value priorities. Otherwise you won't be fulfilled and happy. You have special places within that need to be touched regularly. Other people likewise have needs, but different ones.
When you tell yourself or allow others to tell you that you shouldn't be a certain way, or have a particular viewpoint or need, then an internal stress collision is produced.
When you project yourself onto others and demand that they be different than they are, then you contribute to this stress problem. You create a resistance state within your mind and body and into your relationships with people. If this state is ongoing, the internal turmoil can lead to the gradual loss of your health.
The more you understand yourself, and others who are uniquely different from you, the easier it becomes to extend love and freedom. You can then accept your own and others strengths and weaknesses. This leads to healing and wholeness within yourself and in your relationships.
As you enhance your understanding of how different people approach problems, procedures, the pace of life, and other people, you can experience improvement in many aspects of your work and home environments.
Are you primarily dominant, influential, steady or compliant? How about the important people in your life? What are some of the subtle features associated with these general categories?
Learning and applying this information can give you the competence to elicit greater commitment and cooperation from others. You can become more effective at preventing and resolving conflict. You can increase the likelihood of yours and others success amidst interpersonal challenges. You can help to create win-win situations while bringing out the best in yourself and others.
This skill of enhanced understanding and communication will give you greater personal power, a life of enhanced freedom, and ultimately greater vitality and health. This can be accomplished through your utilization of the DISC Behavioral Style as well as the Personal Interests, Attitudes and Values assessment tools.
Many companies produce these personal assessments but Target Training International is at the forefront. They are inexpensive and lead to the production of a detailed and accurate report. This is powerful and very practical information that will truly enhance your life.
