Projecting Yourself Onto Your World

M_Norton_NL

Do you ever find yourself thinking: "I just can't seem to live and work with these people very well but I can't do without them either"? You're not alone. This is a struggle for everyone to some degree.

However, it is possible to live "Set Free" and extend greater freedom to others?

We are each unique individuals with our own worldview and way of being. We see the world from our own personal plot of soil. Each of us have different interests, attitudes and values.

We all have our own set of motivations and purposes that make life worthwhile for us. We also have our own approach to thinking and style of doing the things we do as we walk through our days.

So who are you? What are you like?

Since you are the center of your own perception, you naturally have a tendency to believe that your way of doing things and the reasons for them are the most normal, important and correct.

Remember we originally thought that the earth was the center and the sun revolved around us. You therefore project who you are, what you want and what works for you onto the world of people around you.

For the most part, I believe we all do this subconsciously and without any malice of intent. You tend to expect (and then possibly demand) people to be like you, to see life and its priorities as you do. It often surprises you when people don't.

If we're different, then somebody must be wrong and so from my perspective it's probably you. We seek to create other people in our image.

When you do this you limit others and fail to see the beauty of their differences. You lose out on all the possible contributions that people with different values, ways of thinking and believing can bring to enhance your life and the world.

You have certain needs that must be met each day in accordance with your personal behavior style or value priorities. Otherwise you won't be fulfilled and happy. You have special places within that need to be touched regularly. Other people likewise have needs, but different ones.

When you tell yourself or allow others to tell you that you shouldn't be a certain way, or have a particular viewpoint or need, then an internal stress collision is produced.

When you project yourself onto others and demand that they be different than they are, then you contribute to this stress problem. You create a resistance state within your mind and body and into your relationships with people. If this state is ongoing, the internal turmoil can lead to the gradual loss of your health.

The more you understand yourself, and others who are uniquely different from you, the easier it becomes to extend love and freedom. You can then accept your own and others strengths and weaknesses. This leads to healing and wholeness within yourself and in your relationships.

As you enhance your understanding of how different people approach problems, procedures, the pace of life, and other people, you can experience improvement in many aspects of your work and home environments.

Are you primarily dominant, influential, steady or compliant? How about the important people in your life? What are some of the subtle features associated with these general categories?

Learning and applying this information can give you the competence to elicit greater commitment and cooperation from others. You can become more effective at preventing and resolving conflict. You can increase the likelihood of yours and others success amidst interpersonal challenges. You can help to create win-win situations while bringing out the best in yourself and others.

This skill of enhanced understanding and communication will give you greater personal power, a life of enhanced freedom, and ultimately greater vitality and health. This can be accomplished through your utilization of the DISC Behavioral Style as well as the Personal Interests, Attitudes and Values assessment tools.

Many companies produce these personal assessments but Target Training International is at the forefront. They are inexpensive and lead to the production of a detailed and accurate report. This is powerful and very practical information that will truly enhance your life.

Contact me at 559-490-9550 to request an assessment or for more information. See the Opportunities section below to sign up for a special program on this important topic.

  1. During the week of August 2-5, 2004 Norton Chiropractic Wellness Center will conduct another C.O.W. (Chiropractic Opportunity Week). This is a very special time because all people new to our office or who have not been present for at least 6 months will receive multiple benefits.

The consultation, full examination (including the unique computerized nervous system stress assessment), any needed x-rays, and the doctor's report of findings are absolutely free and without obligation! This is up to a $250 value and is only offered 3x per year.

  2. There will be a special bonus opportunity this time. We will have the Pharmanex laser skin antioxidant analyzer to measure this critical nutritional factor. This is so important for minimizing free radical damage for anti-aging and immune system health. There will be no cost or obligation for this information.

Please call ASAP for the best times and share this with anybody you know who may suffer with pain or illness of any kind. We must hear from you by August 5th, 2004 to be included!

  3. We are pleased to provide an encore presentation of the program "Increasing Your Personal Power Through Dynamic Communication" on Thursday July 22nd, 2004. This class is fun!!

This is for all of you who would like to learn more about and apply the wisdom of the DISC behavior style language discussed in the article above. This is powerful stuff! Even if you have been exposed to this work previously, you will receive new insights. Refreshments will be provided.

  4. We are also excited to announce the in-office premiere of Dr. Norton's most powerful program "Stress-Who Needs It?" He has taught this class with rave reviews on a monthly basis over the last 2 years for the Central Valley Professionals division of the California Employment Development Dept.

In this presentation Dr. Norton utilizes his own personal life stresses including the death of his first wife as the launching platform for this essential teaching. This class will include many elements from his upcoming book. It will include the necessity of stress for growth and life value but also look at the potential for destruction of health and quality of life.

Healing Hints

  1. Seek to regularly increase your understanding and appreciation of your true nature. God created something excellent in you. The more you know yourself, the more you can set yourself up to meet your daily internal needs and create joy. More joy equals greater health and an enhanced ability to love others.
  2. Greater self-knowledge will minimize the likelihood of anyone else infringing upon your freedom and having control over you.
  3. Seek to develop a deeper understanding of the important people in your daily world and even the various characteristics and possible motivations of other people in general. If you know others better than they even know themselves (which isn't really that hard to do), then you can be a more powerful and effective leader. Help others to get what they want and need.
  4. Master your LanguageIf you seek to master the DISC universal language of behavior (see the July learning opportunity above) and gain insight into the values that drive people (available in the Sept. program entitled "Your Attitude Is Showing"), then you will increasingly have greater freedom from negative stress. Distress seems to most frequently be related to our relationships. This will absolutely benefit your long-term health.
  5. Be yourself and extend the freedom to others to be themselves. This allows for an optimal flow of energy and harmony to permeate every cell of your being for maximal health and well-being.
  6. Make a commitment to continual growth and expansion and become all the potential that was placed in you at your creation. Don't live feeling trapped within status quo boundaries just because it seems safer to do so.
  7. Schedule a computerized nervous system stress assessment to measure the extent of interference caused in great part by you and others projecting self onto the world. Call 559-490- 9550 to set an appointment or visit us online for more information.
